01 / Challenge

The challenge

FMCG is under pressure in South Africa with discretionary spending being squeezed, and they needed to grow market share without increasing advertising spend. We identified significant opportunity for long-term, cost-effective growth through SEO, which was a channel they had neglected for years.

02 / Approach

The approach

This legacy brand had large amounts of technical SEO debt that needed to be resolved. We focused on the technical discoverability of the site first. We then moved on to updating the onsite crawlability of the site to leverage the brand equity that was already in the market. Finally, we crafted a content marketing strategy and started to leverage their brand name to build high-quality backlinks through their supplier network and internal sub-brands.

03 / Results

The results

Between January and May 2026, organic revenue grew from R150k to R420k a month. Sales from SEO rose from just under 4,000 to over 10,200 a month, and average Google ranking improved from position 22 to position 9.

Compared with the same month a year earlier, organic revenue grew by R1.4m (+113%) from November to August.
